Developed alongside the mighty Contendo II. The Aries Cerat Aurora is a partially active 3-way horn speaker system 

It is a three way, semi-active horn speaker, with an active bass/midbass section and a passive horn midrange/dipole horn tweeter.

Diffraction-free horn design for the mid and high frequency range.

The Aurora combines the dynamics, detail and frequency range of live music, with great tones and a wonderful flow of music, like no other speaker.

The bass module is a solid aluminium cube (with a thickness of 25mm solid aluminium sides) with open back. Each cube is loaded by 4 massive 12’’ woofers, working in a hybrid/open baffle configuration. The cube bass module has a sensitivity of 100db/W and is driven by it’s own internal amplifier and a combination of passive line filters.

The four woofers radiate in a 360 deg configuration, with open back, resulting in a uniform loading of the room, and minimizing room boundaries nodes formation, while avoiding the usual box coloration. 

The midrange horn is a specially designed tractrix horn with a 360deg swirl termination. The sole purpose of the geometry is minimizing diffraction radiation from the termination(mouth) of the horn, which is present in almost all horn designs. The compression driver used is a custom unit, a modern variation of the WE 555 driver, but with much higher power handling specification, and much more powerful magnetic circuit.

The horn is crossed at 280Hz and 3000Hz

The treble is handled (crossed at 3000Hz) by a dipole horn ribbon tweeter. The ribbon driver is a true  flat-foil aluminum ribbon (not planar) custom designed for the purpose and built by RAAL , and is open back (dipole) radiating driver, while in the front it is loaded by specially designed tractrix horn. The tweeter is time aligned to the midrange horn, which both midrange and tweeter are also time aligned to the cube bass drivers( The four 12’’ bass drivers construct a “virtual” driver , where the acoustic center of the said driver to be in the geometric center of the cube. Making the design true time aligned). Special microphone apparatus and custom software is used to align the acoustic centers of the drivers, to create true optimized transducer.

The speaker is driven by a set of filters located in the external crossover. A phone-app-controlled module, allows the user to fully customize the output of the speaker to tailor it’s performance to each individual listening room or tailor to user preference. The module is not using DSP or analog processing circuit, but it is a complex array of switches, that select between a set of fully passive analog filters. User can control a number of the speaker parameters, among full control of power output of all driver, as well as other more advanced filters.

The system is suitable for operation with high-class solid-state as well as with low-power tube amplifiers.
